- Hmmm... interesting..... I don't believe that we have seen this type
- of problem show up here on any of our systems.
-
- However, try these options:
-
- 1) GROUND ! Make sure you have a ground, a real ground, not a ground
- thru the AC power plug, get a cold water pipe ground, building steel,
- or put in your own ground rod system.
-
- 2) Make sure all of your equipment is tied to this ground reference.
-
- 3) Use shielded cables on your T1 cabling and make sure you use
- shielded cables for your low speed RS232 stuff.
-
- 4) Are you keeping your Ring Generator isolated and separated from the
- 2-Wire Teleco lines to your modems ? (your RIng Gen may be internal,in
- this case disregard.)
-
- 5) There is a possibilty that the T1 is taking hits or has moderate
- amount of Bit Error Rate.... This translates to each of your (24)
- analog 2-Wire ports loosing small chunks of the signal as the T1 takes
- a "digital" hit. This is a telco problem and must be resolved by them.
- I have seen this be the root of the problem in our own systems at
- work, same problem - no connects, or intermittent connects, or
- substandard speeds. THe problem is that YOU cannot hear the problems,
- the modem uses all of the standard bandwidth available. Extreme cases
- of error rate will translateto you hearing a crackle noise or popping
- noise.
-
- 6) Is there a test mode or terminal port on the channel bank you are
- using ? Typically there is a port you can hook a terminal to and bring
- up a diagnostic mode to take a look at things like framing errors,
- BER, BLER, CRC, and Bipolar violations and errors. A few are typical
- but more than that it's time to make a call to the telco.
-
- 7) Last, but not least there is a critical setting on your channel
- bank that can cause problems. It's the clock setting, it should be set
- to Recieve or Loop Timing, this to allow the channel bank to
- synchronize itself to the telco T1, there is an internal clock also,
- if you use that setting then you will (probably) not be 100% in sync
- with the telco central office.
-
- Good Luck,
